Under the Tenant Fees Act 2019, a landlord cannot charge more than 5 weeks' rent as a security deposit (for annual rents under £50,000). Check if your deposit is within the legal cap.
The 5-week cap applies to assured shorthold tenancies (ASTs) in England with annual rent under £50,000. For rents of £50,000+ per year, the cap is 6 weeks' rent. This tool uses the 5-week cap.
